Team Goals
Our Plan
H.E.R.D
We plan to go beyond just trying to achieve the highest scores or best code, but instead to make a difference within our program and across the seas of FIRST. This year we continued our vast connection with our community, backed up with our goal to reach 300 hours of outreach to ensure all of El Paso can join our H.E.R.D this year. We hope not only to aid our community by sharing our knowledge of STEM but also by assisting in providing service for our community. As our team dives into the season our splash leaves a lasting effect on our community.
At the beginning of the year, we brainstormed ways to dive deeper this season.
-
Inspire: Encourage communities outside of our own including those from different areas of the world. Our purpose is to spread STEAM and guide the future innovators of the world.
-
Connect: We aimed to reach 5,000 people through our continued partnerships with the Outlets Shoppes at El Paso, Snapology, El Paso Health, and more
-
Motivate: Ensure all teams are ready to take to the seas this season, especially newer teams, such as the first community FTC team in El Paso, the Sun City Gators.
Our H.E.R.D. approach guides how we spread STEAM and show support for our community. H stands for Help, providing resources and mentorship to newly developing FLL and FTC teams in El Paso. E is for Engage, connecting with schools to inspire interest in STEAM. R stands for Reach, focusing on diverse and underserved groups such as women and Hispanics in STEAM fields. D is for Develop; creating sustainable programs that motivate and inspire the next generation of engineers and innovators. With H.E.R.D., we make it our mission to empower our community through our STEAM showcases, outreaches, and even food and backpack drives in hopes of providing the amazing opportunities the world of FIRST and STEAM have to offer

Last year we helped our sister team, 5911, open the doors to the first-ever community FTC team in El Paso. Sun City Gators was created in partnership with the company Snapology with whom we've held numerous outreaches. Despite having a busy season, we made the effort to continue our meetings on a bi-weekly basis alongside dedicating days of our winter and fall break to the aid and growth of the Sun City Gators. We helped guide them through numerous aspects of their voyage this season, ranging from getting their robot ready to set sail, to giveaways and cheers. We believe that helping create this team opened up a whole new door for FIRST in El Paso, and further supports our goal of helping FIRST and STEAM set sail everywhere.
sTEM PALS
Our STEM Pals outreach initiative continues a worldwide STEM expansion we started in 2023. We’ve been able to continue hosting events in India, connecting with over 300 students through in-person outreaches and online connections. Through STEM Pals, We hope to expand our impact into communities other than our own and motivate students around the globe to explore STEAM careers.
fIRST FUSION
For the 11th year in a row, Montwood Robotics helped with the El Paso FLL championships as judges, referees, and crowd control personnel for the 50 teams participating. Additionally, we set sail hosting El Paso’s first FLL scrimmage on December 7th, 2024. We gave the 6 attending FLL teams a chance to practice in a friendly competition to gain experience before their championships. Teams got to view the FTC qualifier we hosted the same day along with a special FRC exhibition.

UMC Backpack and Food Drive

This year we partnered with El Paso health to help bring food and backpacks to over 1,074 members of our community. Throughout this event 20 of our Montwood Robotics members aided in the distribution of backpacks and crates of food to children and their families in preparation of the new school year. Alongside this, we held a stand at the event in hopes of educating our community on the various opportunities robotics and STEAM have to offer.

oUTLETS AT eL pASO

Each year, we make it our mission to create a positive impact in our community by providing engaging educational opportunities in STEAM and robotics at the Outlets of El Paso. This season, we decided to double our efforts by actively participating in The Outlets of El Paso’s Boo Bash Halloween event and the Father's Day Fair. These exciting events allowed us to connect with over 791 people, offering them a chance to learn more about our program and engage in a variety of fun STEAM activities.
